A Southern Pacific GP-9 or more correctly a GP-9P, the "P" indicating this unit was purchased by the SP for passenger service. These passenger service locomotives were equipped with steam generators and dual control stands easily identified by the red wings painted on both ends of the unit. As delivered to the SP, this unit donned the black widow paint scheme and was later repainted in the SP gray and scarlet scheme. An interesting characteristic of this locomotive was the roof mounted air tanks, sometimes referred to as "torpedo tubes", installed on all non-dynamic units. Donning a modest dose of dirt, dust, grime and rust, this unit is certainly showing its age. Also note the original wagon wheel type antenna just in front of the cab roof. This locomotive was custom painted with Polly Scale paints and Micro Scale decals. Details on this Atlas unit include cab sunshades, SP style light packages forward and aft, MV lenses, a wagon wheel antenna, MU hoses, Trainline air hoses, coupler lift bars, a custom road number and number boards, windshield wipers, a simulated industrial green cab interior, and Micro-Trains couplers.
